ANANTAPUR : Several industrialists and persons holding high offices came together on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University near here on Saturday to form Anantapur Development Initiative (ADI) Foundation. The society will train educated poor youth in order to impart skills required to compete for employment opportunities, at free of cost. Apart from graduates, postgraduates and professional degree holders, even drop outs of Intermediate and class ten would be trained by the foundation in batches. The foundation has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the university as strategic partner in its endeavour. The foundation has selected 34 post graduate students for the soft skills development training to begin with. Foundation stone was also laid for the construction of buildings required for training centre of the ADI Foundation. Brand ambassadors
Commissioner of Income Tax M. Narasimhappa said that there were many to lend a helping hand to the educated youth of drought-ravaged Anantapur and urged them to promise that they would help at least one like them after getting employment. He wished the first batch of trainees of the foundation to be its brand ambassadors for future batches. It was a great opportunity for the educated poor youth in the district to hone their skills in the training to be offered by the foundation. He mentioned that lack of such support was leaving the farming community of the district succumb to the distress caused by successive failure of crops resulted from the unfavourable nature. Terming ADI Foundation a good beginning Vice-Chancellor of SKU A. Rama Rao wished the effort to be an example to other parts of the State and asked the youth to know their latent talent with the help of training programme.Additional DGP J.V. Ramudu, Chairman of I-Labs Srini Raju and Chairman of Indu Projects Shyamprasad Reddy said the youth should first learn how to communicate effectively as a lot of opportunities are available. Anantapur Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra felt that youth of district were prone to criminal activities as they did not have anything worthwhile to do. Only peace would lead to prosperity, he said. Local industrialists Ananthaiah and Seshanjaneyulu announced donation of Rs. 2 lakhs and Rs. 1 lakh respectively, to the foundation.
Placement drive held
Meanwhile, over 200 students of M.Sc chemistry, bio-chemistry, instrumentation, computer science and MBA attended interviews and group discussion conducted by three firms as part of placement drive on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) here on Saturday. Director of the Placement Cell V. Suryanarayana Rao said that 40 students were selected for the next round of selection process by Millennium Software, Microtome Devices and Agarwal Diamonds. Final selection will be made after a telephonic interview with the short-listed students.
