New Delhi: Ace shooter Tejaswini Sawant won the gold in the women's 50m rifle prone event at the Australia Cup on Saturday. Tejaswini shot 588 to win the first gold for India in the competition. The other Indians in the event Anjali Bhagwat (584), Meena Kumari (579), Deepali Deshpande (578) and Avneet Kaur Sindhu (577) all finished outside the medal bracket, according to information reaching here. The silver went to Kurkova (587) of the Czech Republic, while Jacobsen of Denmark (586) bagged the bronze. In the men's 50m rifle prone, Sanjev Rajput won the bronze and set a National record in the process with a score of 699.1 (597+102.1). Rajput, who was leading after the qualifications, lost out in the finals to the two very experienced prone shooters, M. Babb of Great Britain, who won the gold, and A. Potent of Australia, who took the silver. Gagan Narang finished fifth with 696.2 (593+103.2), while Surendra Rathod and Sushil Ghaley shot 590 and 588 respectively. In the 10m air pistol men's event, Samaresh Jung finished fifth with a score of 675 (576+99). Vivek Singh (673), Ronak Pandit (671.5) and Amanpreet Singh (575) finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. The gold was won by Babii of Romania with 683.7 (583+100.7). PTI
