First loss for Parimarjan

NEW DELHI: Parimarjan Negi suffered his first loss in the Sigeman chess tournament after facing second-seeded Dutch Grandmaster Erwin L'Ami in the third round at Malmo, Sweden, on Friday.

The 67-move reverse in Queen's Gambit Declined kept the 14-year-old at 1.5 points, just behind the four-man leaders' group.

The results: Third round: Erwin L'Ami (Ned, 1.5) bt Parimarjan Negi (1.5); Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 2) drew with Pontus Carlsson (Swe, 1); Emil Hermansson (0.5) drew with Tiger Hillarp Persson (Swe, 2); Jonny Hector (Swe, 1) lost to Emanuel Berg (Swe, 2); Vassilios Kotronias (Gre, 2) drew with Jan Timman (Ned, 1.5).
