Departmental proceedings against Premkumar stayed

Special Correspondent

K.Premkumar

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has stayed the departmental proceedings against Superintendent of Police K. Premkumar, who had moved the court alleging witch-hunt by senior officers and the Government.

Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar granted the interim stay, after Government sought time to file its reply. "The Government Advocate sought time to file counter. Time granted till June 5 to file counter. Interim stay granted till then," the Judge said.

Mr. Premkumar submitted that he had noticed a number of alterations in the original documents relating to the charge memo issued to him by an Inspector-General of Police, who was appointed inquiry officer.

"It is clear that the documents had been tampered by the officials of the CB-CID," he said in his petition questioning the rationale behind the rejection of his plea to send the documents to a handwriting expert. Alleging that there was malafide on the part of the Government, he said that unless the documents were sent for forensic examination truth would not come out.
