Read stories on Net... for a price

Staff Reporter

The site will have all published stories. For every story read, a part of the sum will go to the writer

HYDERABAD: Here is some good news for Telugu story writers. Not only can they reach millions of Telugu story lovers across the world but will also get their due, in the form of royalties, which they seldom get.

The US-based Silicon Andhra organisation, which promotes Telugu language and culture, has come up with a new initiative to boost reading and also preserve literature for posterity. The idea is to scan all the stories published earlier and present them in an exclusive website that is being created.

The inspiration is Kalipatnam Rama Rao's "Katha Nilayam" in Srikakulam, which is considered the source for biggest collection of Telugu stories. "We want to utilise technology to take it across the seas," said Kuchibotla Anand, founder president of Silicon Andhra at a presentation at Potti Sriramulu Telugu University on Friday. Mr. Anand said the site would be open for subscription and for every story read on the site a part of the sum would go to the author. Subscribers can download the scanned stories and read them. "The organisation will take some money for maintaining the website and the rest would be given to the writers," he said. The project would be a reality within six months.

Board of trustees

Mr. Kalipatnam Rama Rao, who was present at the meeting, said all the works available at Katha Nilayam would be given to Silicon Andhra. A board of trustees has already agreed. Mr. Anand also explained various activities taken up by the organisation over the last six years.
