HYDERABAD: E2 labs of Hyderabad and National Anti-hacking Group (NAG), a social organisation, have joined hands to create awareness among Internet users and minimise the increasing cyber crimes in the country. Considering the success of e-Governance in Andhra Pradesh, the two companies propose to make Hyderabad a `cyber security capital' of India.
Hackers' haven
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, CEO of E2 Labs Zaki Qureshy and NAG's founder Vineet Kumar said that India was turning out to be hackers' haven. Owing to insufficient security and firewalls, e-commerce was not successful in the country, making online deals vulnerable to hacking. As may as 1,752 Indian websites out of which 39 were Government sites were hacked in the first half of 2006. Mr. Kumar, an 18-year-old enthusiast practising ethical hacking, said that a programme called `Cyber Netizens' would be launched to teach safety measures, targeting youth, parents and teachers. Free seminars would be conducted across the country to create mass awareness on misuse of credit, debit and ATM cards.
Technical expertise
Quoting a NASSCOM study, they said that India required 5,00,000 technical experts and squads to combat cyber attacks. The supply was, however, not proportionate to the demand. The Global Ethical Hackers' Association (GEHA), founded by Mr. Kumar, had 10,000 professionals working voluntarily to develop exploits that would plug the loopholes in IT security. They plan to organise an International Information Security Summit (IISS) in the city in September.
