Power cuts on in some areas

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: As Delhi continued to sizzle, the Delhi Government's Power Department on Saturday met the peak load of 3,154 MW with 3 MW rotational load shedding.

The shedding by BRPL in Okhla Phase-II that led to power cuts in adjoining areas was attributed to "system constraints in the BRPL area".

On Friday, when the Capital recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius -- 3 degrees above normal -- the Power Department met the maximum load of 3,360 MW with 3 MW load shedding.

Despite assurances by the Power Department earlier in the week that the 210 MW unit at Badarpur which is out of action would be back in use by Friday, generation is yet to resume.

Grid discipline

The Department's explanation that rotational load shedding in some areas is being carried out to maintain Grid discipline has also failed to placate residents who continue to suffer power cuts.

Delhi continued to overdraw from the Northern Grid to feed its demand. On Saturday, more than 50 MW of power was overdrawn.

Of the total of 1,098 MW of power generated in the city, 449 MW came from the Badarpur Plant, 124 MW from the Gas Turbine, 134 MW from Indraprastha Plant, 265 MW from Pragati Plant and 126 MW from Raj Ghat Plant.
