Call to inculcate national pride among the youth

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: M.S. Ananth, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has stressed the need for reviving national pride among the youth.

Delivering the annual Sree Sankara lecture on `ancient science, modern technology and values in education' at Sanskrit University in Kalady on Saturday, Prof. Ananth said that the country went through a long period of colonial governance that left society with little pride and an identity crisis.

Prof. Ananth said that Indian culture has been associated with non-violence, an appreciation of the arts and pursuit of knowledge and wealth.

"Our nationalism has been described as the only such movement that was free of hatred of fellow human beings," he said.
