BANGALORE: Five children drowned in a village tank at Jodugatti village in Magadi police station limits, near here, on Saturday. The bodies were fished out from a village tank by the Magadi police and taken to the Magadi government hospital. Information reaching State police headquarters here said Muniraju (8) had gone for a swim in the tank. Even as he was drowning, he screamed for help inviting the attention of the others. Soon, Sakamma (9), Muni Madhamma (9), Muthu Madhamma (10) and Gowramma (14) jumped into the tank to save him. But all the four also drowned, the police said. While Sakamma was the daughter of Puttaiah, Muni Madamma and Muthu Madhamma were daughters of Nedulaiah. Gowramma was Guttaiah's daughter.
They were all from the "Iruliga Budakattu" community from the Jodugatti village, according to the police. The incident took place at about 2.30 p.m. Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, visited the spot.
