BANGALORE: The city of Mysore now has a connection with The Guardian, one of the most respected newspapers in the United Kingdom and beyond. The Mysore-based Excelsoft Technologies, a leading e-learning solutions provider, has developed a software application "Newsmaker" for The Guardian. The application can be used for all school subjects and ages, and helps students design their own online newspapers. The Guardian is making this application available to its popular education products that have a loyal readership base. Newsmaker, which took about two years to develop, literally transforms a classroom of students into a newsroom of editors, journalists and picture researchers exploring world topics while developing professional skills. Its ease of use and wide choice of templates and fonts provided make page-making and editing fun exercises. Currently, more than 100 schools in the U.K. are using the software. Chief Executive Officer of the company D. Sudhanva said: "There are two elements to Newsmaker. The first is the computer application, which allows students to produce a professional-looking newspaper using a step-by-step process. The second element is the set of `Topic Packs' linked to a range of curriculum subjects. The packs are ideal for activities whose principal learning objective is to use relevant information to present a story or argument rather than find or create information resources, which may take more time." "Excelsoft will be launching Newsmaker in India very soon and we are also looking at partnering with a newspaper in India," he added.
