Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE: Avo International, a German organisation, along with the Swiss Labour Assistance, has undertaken to construct 100 dwelling units for the tsunami-affected people of the Samiarpettai, Chinnur and Indira Nagar coastal villages. Of these, 45 houses have been completed through the Life Help, a non-governmental organisation. District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo handed over the keys to the beneficiaries at Samiarpettai on Friday. Director of Avo International Friedemann Koengeter said the houses at Chinnur and Indira Nagar would also be completed soon.
Facilities
The Collector listed out the various facilities created by the Government spending about Rs.1 crore in Samiarpettai. These included disbursement of Rs.47.30 lakh as revolving funds to 99 self-help groups, a fish drying yard (Rs.2 lakhs) and a community hall (Rs.7.70 lakh). Director of Avo International Friedemann Koengeter said his organisation had been rendering social service for the past five decades. He said the houses at Chinnur and Indira Nagar would also be completed soon, and thanked the district administration and the coastal community for their cooperation in the endeavour.
