TIRUNELVELI : The Speaker, R. Avudaiyappan, inaugurated a community hall and an overhead drinking water tank on Sunday. While laying the foundation stone for an overhead tank to be constructed at a cost of Rs.3.77 lakh at Maruthamputhur near Alangulam, he dedicated the overhead tank (Rs. 5.22 lakh) and the community hall (Rs. 5.50 lakh) at Vennilingapuram. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Avudaiyappan said the overhead tank inaugurated on Sunday would provide drinking water to 2,210 villagers and the tank to be constructed soon would quench the thirst of 485 people. Listing out the welfare schemes and freebies of the State Government, the Speaker said the decision to sell palm oil and dhal in the ration shops at fair price would be of great help to the poor. The Minister for Social Welfare, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, said 17 projects to strengthen infrastructure such as drinking water, roads, bridges, community halls, sub-stations etc. were being implemented in Alangulam constituency. The Speaker disbursed assistance of Rs.15,000 each to 10 women under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme, and Rs. 10,000 for marriage to another girl under another scheme.
