Frequent traffic snarls in Hosur a cause for concern

Staff Reporter

Municipality urged to remove roadside shops

Hosur: Despite the police introducing various traffic regulations, traffic in Hosur continues to be chaotic due to lack of enforcement.

With the town located on the NH - 7 the heavy traffic especially the speeding vehicles have become a nightmare for pedestrians and motorists.

Regulations

Following representations from the public on the need to streamline the traffic in the main market area, many regulations including the conversion of Nethaji Road and Gandhi Road were announced.

Though boards announcing traffic regulations have been placed in these areas the rules are followed only in breach.

Being a major shopping area, motorists park their vehicles on both sides of M.G Road and Nethaji Road resulting in frequent traffic jams.

The entry of heavy vehicles and bullock carts has been a major hurdle for the free movement of traffic.

Entry of heavy vehicles

Though the police have announced a particular time for the entry of heavy vehicles inside Nethaji Road and Gandhi Road the rule is seldom adhered to. The numerous roadside shops and pushcarts, which extend on to the roads, add to the chaos.

The municipality should remove the roadside shops to ease traffic congestion, residents here say.

Traffic snarls have become a regular feature on the stretch between Hosur Dargah and Zuzuvadi checkpost on NH 7. Truck drivers park their vehicles near the checkpost itself.

People reluctant

According to a senior police official, though traffic regulations have been announced people are reluctant to follow them.

Even as specific timings have been announced for the entry of heavy vehicles the business community fail to follow them resulting in traffic snarls during peak hours.

With Hosur poised for further growth and the vehicle population also on the rise, the public should be sensitised to traffic rules not only for their safety but also of others, he says.
