Vocational training centre
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
It all began two years ago when a group of people on a visit to Ekadu near Tiruvallur came across several visually challenged persons without proper shelter or food. The incident inspired the formation of the Bartimaeus Trinity Trust that has dedicated itself to improve the quality of lives of visually impaired people. The trust has set up a temporary meeting place for the visually challenged persons who are trained in various crafts and also learn braille and English. Well-wishers and trust members gathered on Saturday to inaugurate the vocational training centre for the visually challenged.
Inaugurating the project, Sriperumbudur MP A. Krishnaswamy said every individual must contribute to the welfare of the disabled. Trust president Kuruvilla Thomas gave a brief on the orphanage that trained the inmates in various skills, including umbrella and bag making. Visually impaired persons were also taught computer skills, he said.
Website launched
The website of the trust, www.btt.org.in, was launched by MP P.J.Kurien.
