KOCHI: Carolyn W. Merritt, chairperson, U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board an independent federal agency investigating chemical accidents, will inaugurate the three-day conference on hydrocarbon safety at Le Meridian Convention Centre here on Monday. The conference is being organised by the State chapter of the National Safety Council; regional chapter of Institution of Chemical Engineers; School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology; Kerala State Productivity Council; regional chapter of the Indian Society for Non-destructive Testing, in technical collaboration with Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation and Department of Factories and Boilers. The theme of the conference is "Hydrocarbon Safety - Vision 2015." About 70 technical papers will be presented in 10 different topics during the conference. An exhibition will be held along with conference, which will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 24. A quiz competition will also be organised for petroleum dealers and distributors. Minister for Labour P.K. Gurudasan will the chief guest at the valedictory function on April 25.
