ALAPPUZHA: A patrolling team of the Kayamkulam police has seized a van ferrying 2,500 litres of illicit spirit in the wee hours of Monday from near the Karunamattam temple in Muthukulam. The patrolling team had stopped a van during a routine inspection near the temple. However, with the driver and cleaner fleeing the spot as soon as the vehicle was stopped, the police got suspicious and seized the vehicle. It was opened in the morning in the presence of local people. The police found 72 plastic cans of 35litre capacity each, all filled with liquor and stored in the rear compartment. A case has been registered.
