Junior women's Asia Cup in November

NEW DELHI: The second under-16 junior women's Asia Cup, scheduled to be held from April 30 to May 5, will now be played at Gwalior from November 3 to 10 after only one country sent its entry for the tournament.

Sri Lanka, apart from host India, was the lone country to send its entry, forcing the Indian Women's Hockey Federation (IWHF) to reschedule the event.

Meanwhile, the IWHF has awarded the National championship to Ranchi, Jharkhand, the venue of the next National Games. "The Nationals were originally allotted to Punjab but the State association backed out and Jharkhand stepped in at the right time," said the IWHF Honorary Secretary, Amrit Bose.

"Since Jharkhand is hosting the National Games we thought the Nationals would be the best event to test the venue," she added. The women's hockey season begins with the sub-junior National championship at Bhopal from May 5 to 12. — Principal Correspondent
