Puducherry
Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) legislator N. Anandhu called upon the administration to pay attention to the century-old VOC Government Higher Secondary School on Mission Street here, whose building was in a perilous condition. Participating in a debate on `Transport, Education and Fisheries' in the Assembly on Monday, Mr. Anandhu said he had been repeatedly pointing out the need for demolishing the old structure and constructing a spacious, new building. Till then, the school could function on temporary premises. He alleged that the Government was not taking any step in this regard because of intervention by the organisations claiming to be protagonists of heritage buildings. Mr Anandhu pointed out that the building was so weak that it could collapse anytime. The Government should take immediate steps in the interest of the school students, he added.
Strike flayed
He also took strong exception to government schoolteachers resorting to strikes, particularly during public examinations.
