Director Vinayan's trademark is his audacity to hit the market without the bandwagon of superstars. His Vishu offer, Athisayan, is no different. "It is very difficult to make a movie that does not have the tag of a superstar," he said at a promotional event of the movie in Kochi on Thursday. But Vinayan likes to take up such projects. "Athisayan tells the story of street-children in an entirely different way. Technology is the superstar of this movie made with a budget of Rs.2.5 crore," he said. For special effects, the makers of the movie had spent Rs.50 lakh. "The initial response has been overwhelming. People have appreciated the graphics that would have cost crores, if made in Hollywood style. We could do it within our limits using the best of technology available here," he said. Gokulam Gopalan, producer of Athisayan, said that he wanted to do something different. "I had produced a Telugu movie way back in 1976. But the film failed to provide the expected returns. Athisayan was different, as it narrated the story of street-children in an interesting manner," he said. Mr. Gopalan said that he would utilise the returns from the movie for rehabilitating street-children in the State.Actor Mukesh, who plays a key role in the movie, said that the Malayalam film industry needs more ventures like Athisayan. "Malayalis have always welcomed movies that stood out in its treatment and narrative." he said. For Kavya Madhavan, who played the role of a journalist in Athisayan, the film was a refreshing experience. "I had only seen the life of a journalist in television and films" she said.
