Letters to the Editor
The arrest of the BJP MP Babubhai Katara for attempting to smuggle out a woman and a teenager to Canada is a disgraceful incident. Stringent action should be taken under the law against Mr. Katara. The BJP, which has often claimed to be a party with a difference, should ponder why it is in the present state.
S. Sathiyamoorthy,
The human trafficking episode is another blow to the credibility of the political class. The steady erosion of democratic values, honesty and integrity in public life is not in India's interest. Enlightened citizenry, responsible media, and a pro-active judiciary can still save the day for Indian democracy.
Such incidents are not only a bad example to our society but also send wrong signals to the international community. Parliament is an embodiment of great democratic traditions and ideals that need to be preserved.
Naveen Marrapu,
The episode is a blot on the entire nation. Stringent punishment should be meted out to the culprit. Corrupt persons should not be allowed to enter the hallowed portals of Parliament.
Farhan Jalal,
