Hockey Correspondent
Chennai: Bob Davidzon, Project Director from the FIH and co-ordinating with the International Olympic Committee, while acknowledging the complexities involved and the correctional programmes needed to revitalise the quality and content of Indian hockey was ready to see a ray of light. On his third visit to the country after being asked to formulate ways and means to invigorate Indian hockey, Davidzon voiced the concern of the international community over the declining trend. Davidzon has prepared a document after a series of 40 meetings with every section connected with the sport, including the Indian Olympic Association, and has identified 14 areas that inhibit development. He has taken note of the critical evaluation of the media over several aspects, but as a neutral observer he has summed up in a "balanced way" the malaise afflicting the system at various levels. Almost everything from the selection of national teams to coaching, management, camps, video analysis, management, marketing, sponsorship and communication figure prominently in Davidzon's recommendations.
Valuable inputs
Expressing happiness over the response to the suggestions made, Davidzon admitted that inputs from coaches like Maurits Hendriks and Roelant Oltmans helped him frame the vision report. Davidzon will meet the Azlan Shah-bound team at Bangalore on Tuesday. The IOC Chief, Jacques Rogge, and the FIH President, Els van Breda Vriessman, are due in New Delhi on April 28. They are expected to throw more light on the project. Earlier, K. Jothikumaran, Secretary, IHF, welcomed Davidzon and commended the work put in by the FIH nominee.
