Development of Hassan district on Revanna's `priority list'

HASSAN: Following the bandh called by Gandhada Koti Ulisi Horata Samiti on May 2 and assurance from Congress and BJP that they will support the bandh; Hassan district in-charge Minister H.D. Revanna has convened a meeting of all MLAs, MLCs, former MLAs, former ministers and organisations on April 26.

Speaking to presspersons in Hassan on Monday, Mr. Revanna said the meeting would discuss about the development of Hassan district. He said conveners of the samiti Venkatesh Murthy and Manjunatha Datta who were agitating against construction of PU College inside Gandhada Koti had in fact agreed to construction of the building when he had convened a meeting earlier.

Medical college

Mr. Revanna said when he established a medical college in Hassan, he discussed with organisations on constructing buildings for the college inside Jaya Chamarajendra Hospital premises. He has got a sanction for nine Government First Grade Colleges for Hassan district including three in Hassan, one each in Banavara, Hirisave, Halebeedu, Hallimysore, Udayapur, Maslehosahalli and Yatnur in Sakleshpur taluk.

Mr. Revanna said the Government Polytechnic Institute in Hassan would be developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore and that 18 new courses would be started during the coming academic year. He said the institute has been upgraded to a Government Engineering College and admissions would start from this year.

He said when Ashoka Hotel, a Government of India Tourism Department concern, was privatised the new owner had cut number of trees inside the premises. But not a single organisation opposed it, he said.

Mr. Revanna refused to answer as to whether Gandhada Koti would be retained or he would go ahead with construction of the PU College.

Minister for Women and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy was also present.
