JAIPUR: Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria laid the foundation stone for a new campus of the Border Security Force's Reserve Battalion, to be established at a cost of Rs. 60 crores, at Kavita village near Udaipur over the weekend. The battalion is being stationed in Udaipur district to assist the civil administration in maintenance of law and order in emergency situations in the tribal-dominated region. Clashes between tribals and the police on various issues are reported with regularity in the area. Mr. Kataria said Rajasthan was the only State in the country where the BSF had been allotted huge tracts of land at two locations, the other being in Jaipur. He said the BSF was playing a significant role in the security of the desert State that had a 1,040-km-long international border. The Minister pointed out that the establishment of the BSF campus would provide employment opportunities to tribals and help in development of the backward tribal region. The local people would benefit especially from the school and emergency medical facilities on the campus, he added. The Inspector-General of BSF Rajasthan Frontier, K. L. Meena, said the BSF personnel belonging to the region would be posted to the campus to enable them to look after their families. The campus will have a shopping complex in addition to telecommunication facilities as well as arrangements for regular supply of milk, fruits, vegetables and items of daily use.
