Kumaraswamy witnesses anger of rain-hit people
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday witnessed the anger of Bangalore's residents affected by heavy rain on Saturday night, and assured them of immediate relief.
Mr. Kumaraswamy visited Kamakya Layout, Oaklipuram and Bharati Nagar. Residents of Kamakya Layout, who were among the worst sufferers, gheraoed him.
Sharada Mani, a resident in Kamakya layout, crying inconsolably, asked the Chief Minister: "I have taken a loan to build my house.
"Where do I go now?" Kamalamma, another resident, said: "We starve every time it rains because we cannot cook in our houses."
A storm water drain overflowed, flooding Kamakya Layout. The cause: A retainer wall along the drain built by the residents was demolished by the corporation authorities.
In Bharati Nagar, Mr. Kumaraswamy said huts alongside the Vrishabhavati storm water drain should be removed.
"We are not here to play politics," Mr. Kumaraswamy promised.
