`Ultimate' office software in Telugu released

Special Correspondent

To be made available free of cost in Government offices

HYDERABAD: Telugu language took another step into the computer era on Monday when the Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Commission released a Telugu software CD for use in Government officers and outside.

The software is described as one step ahead of the two existing software already available -- I-LEAP (a private one) and another released by the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The latest software, described as `ultimate and all encompassing', has been developed jointly by the National Informatics Centre and Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute.

This "open office" software can be used without any restriction or difficulty by all computers loaded with open office and MS office facilities for writing a file, striking off written matter, drawing of tables and graphs, even for presentations through various designs.

Releasing the CD at a press conference here, Commission chairman A.B.K. Prasad said it would be made available free of cost to all Government offices to start with and later to all interested parties and persons depending on the Government budget.
