Berhampur varsity students block highway

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Hundreds of students of Berhampur University blocked the NH 217 passing through the city and demonstrated in front of the office of the Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday morning.

These students used the university buses to reach the spot to protest against the attack by some miscreants on the vehicle of former president of the students' union of the university Rabi Bisoi on Sunday night at the university campus.

A large number of girl students of the university took part in the agitation demanding proper security measures on the campus as the attack took place near the girls' hostel. They also demanded transfer of officer-in-charge of the university police outpost. Following an assurance given by the SP the students called off the road blockade.

Circle Inspector Rajendra Patnaik has been directed to investigate into charges made by students.
