Wild elephant census begins on May 7

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
A census of the wild elephants will begin in the forests of the State from May 7, the Chief Wildlife Warden has said.
The census is part of a nationwide exercise coordinated by the Project Tiger functioning under the Union Department of Forests and Environment, he said in a press release. It will be a three-day affair, to be completed on May 9. The Wildlife Departments of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are conducting the census on the same days to ensure that the elephant counting is as exact as possible.
