Construction workers' meet on April 28

Vayalar Ravi to inaugurate the meeting

KOCHI: The 34th State conference of the Kerala Kettida Nirmana Thozhilali Congress will be held at M.E.S.Hall, Ernakulam, on April 28.

Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi will inaugurate the meeting.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, K.P.Elsebius, State president of the KKNTC, said the conference would also observe the International Workers Memorial Day, declared by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), on Saturday.

AICC secretary and INTUC national vice-president Ramachandra Kuntia will deliver the keynote address. Harcharan Kaur, Building and Wood Workers International (BWI) Asia Pacific Regional Gender Coordinator, will deliver the International Workers Memorial Day message.

Financial aid

Construction workers who suffered injuries in accidents at the work place will be given financial assistance towards their treatment at a function.

Mr. Elsebius said the KKNTC had demanded that the rules for providing safety at work places should be strictly implemented at work sites.

The unions should also take care to include the conditions in the Construction Workers Welfare Fund Rules in the agreements.

Assistance demanded

An assistance of Rs.10 lakh should be given to the dependents of the workers who died at the work site, he demanded.
