New Delhi: Exit polls after the fourth round of polling in Uttar Pradesh on Monday showed the Mayawati-led BSP continuing to be the single largest party followed by the Samajwadi Party with the BJP being relegated to the third spot. An NDTV exit poll conducted after the fourth phase predicted that the ruling Samajwadi Party would bag the largest share of 25-29 seats out of the 57 that went to the polls on Monday, indicating that rebel leader Beni Prasad Verma made little dent in its fortunes. The other projections were: BSP 13-17 seats, BJP 10-14 and Congress 1-5. If present voting patterns continue, the BSP could emerge as the single largest party with 131-141 seats against 98 in the 2002 elections, followed by the SP with 109-119 seats (145 in 2002). The BJP would get 91-101 seats (107 in 2002) and the Congress 33-43 seats against 25 in the previous elections. A Star TV exit poll showed the BSP getting 22 seats in the fourth phase followed by SP (20), BJP (11), Congress (3) and others (1). The projections for the entire Assembly based on current voting trends showed the BSP getting 146 seats, followed by the BJP (99), SP (91), Congress (28) and Others (39). The India TV-C Voter exit poll showed the SP getting 23-27 seats in the fourth phase followed by BSP (14-18), BJP (9-13), Congress (2-5) and Others (3-6). PTI
