Power supply disruption

KOCHI: Power supply to Vytilla and Kaniyampuzha regions will be disrupted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday owing to maintenance work, said a release from Kerala State Electricity Board. — Staff Reporter.

Pirated CDs seized

NEDUMBASSERY: Customs Intelligence wing at the Cochin International Airport seized around 3,000 pirated English CDs brought here illegally. The seizure was made from Chennai-based Shahul Hameed when he arrived here by a Srilankan Airline flight on Sunday night. According to sources, the CDs were routed here from Malaysia via Colombo. — A Correspondent

Conference on software engineering

KOCHI: The Department of Computer Science at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in association with the Computer Society of India will organise a national conference on software engineering here on April 26 and 27. K. Poulose Jacob, Programme Chair, said in a press release that 50 papers would be presented at the event. — Staff Reporter

Three arrested

KOCHI: Three persons of a group of five were arrested by the Ernakulam Town Central police on the charge of cheating a jewellery in the city using fake credit cards. According to the police, the group purchased gold ornaments costing Rs. 5.30 lakh from a jewellery using fake credit cards. Those arrested were identified as Raj, 32, and Khushi Sankrani, 18, of Bangalore and Mohammed Aboobacker, 28, of Koothuparamba, Kannur. The police have launched a search for two persons of the gang who managed to escape. Those arrested will be presented before the court on Tuesday, the police said. — Staff Reporter

Drinking water project for schools

KOCHI: The Education Department will implement a project to provide purified drinking water to students in all schools across Ernakulam district. Deputy Director of Education, Ernakulam, said in a press release that the project would be implemented with funds collected from old students. — Staff Reporter
