Man gets RI for rape of minor girl

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years' rigorous imprisonment for criminally assaulting a nine-year-old girl last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar sentenced Gajadhar relying on well-corroborated and truthful deposition of the victim.

The court rejected a plea for leniency by Gajadhar's counsel saying the act was committed by a man who was in a father-like position for the victim. The court further observed that the girl, despite the emotional trauma she was undergoing, gave rational answers to all the questions from the two counsel during her deposition.
