dated April 25, 1957: The nuclear menace

Every effort should be made to stop the accumulation of nuclear weapons in the world and the tests that were being carried on with poisonous effects, said Mr. C.Rajagopalachari in Madras on April 23. He appealed to the people to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Nehru to do his duty as a knight of peace in this hour of crisis. Rajaji was speaking on the occasion of an address by Dr. Monica Felton, member of the British Labour Party, on "Britain and the bomb" under the auspices of the Indian Council of World Affairs at the Servants of India Society. Dr. Felton, in the course of her address, said that if there was going to be another summit conference, it had to work out concrete proposals not only for stopping the nuclear tests, but also for controlling the production and destruction of stocks. The atom bomb brought about not only the physical destruction of the victims, but brought in its wake moral destruction also.
