Puducherry: Industries Minister V. Vaithilingam has called upon the youth to improve skills to emerge as job providers and launch self-employment projects. Distributing certificates to a batch of boys and girls, who had undergone four-month training in "IT Enabled Services and Computer Education" conducted by the National Institute of Educational Development Systems (NIEDS) in association with District Industries Centre (Puducherry) here on Tuesday, Mr. Vaithilingam said that the purpose of the training programme was to create manpower. He also commissioned the NIEDS' Computer Information Centre. Puducherry was showing the way in spreading the computer education to rural areas, he said. Such training would continue and more number of youth would become computer specialists and man information kiosks in villages. Lead District Manager of Indian Bank, Puducherry, J. Chandrasekaran said that the bank had successfully implemented the national financial inclusion scheme. He said that internet kiosks opened in Madukarai and Kattterikuppam were not fully successful since manpower was not available to operate them. He said that the bank had extended loans to 55 persons to install centres to purvey computer-based information to rural areas. General Manager of Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation (PIPDIC) K. Pandian, General Manager of DIC B. Ramassamy and its Functional Manager S.Augustin also spoke. R.R. Dhanapall Chairman of NIEDS explained the activities of the institute.
