Sanitation Mission to be launched

Chief Minister directs officials to prepare a plan

BHOPAL: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced that a Sanitation Mission will be launched in Madhya Pradesh next month. Under the Mission, there would be particular emphasis on construction of proper toilets in urban slums.

Mr. Chauhan made the announcement at a high level meeting in Mantralaya here. He directed the officials present at the meeting to prepare a plan and send it to the Government for all-round development of all 338 Nagar Panchayats, municipalities and corporations in the State to ensure proper use of funds for development purposes. He said there was a need to generate awareness about sanitation among the people.

The parents were bound to be motivated if instructions were given to the school children about

sanitation and hygiene, he pointed out.

Mr. Chauhan said toilets should be constructed on a priority basis and adequate grants should be made available for this purpose.

A separate budget would be allocated under the Sanitation Mission, the Chief Minister said, adding

that special committees would be formed at the district level under the chairmanship of the District

Collectors to ensure smooth working of the Sanitation Mission.

The Chief Minister congratulated the officers linked with Project Uday, which has been launched in the State to provide clean drinking water to the people.
