KOZHIKODE: The Akshaya Mission is well into implementing the new initiatives chalked out for e-learners as part of moving on to the next phase in the district. Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Anwar Sadat, manager, Kerala State IT Mission; Rajeev Kumar, Mission coordinator; and C. Babu, district assistant coordinator; said the objective of the Akshaya programme was to provide all types of services to the general public. Railway e-tickets, submission of passport applications, collection of LIC premium, preparing websites for individuals and institutions and digitisation of indigenous knowledge would be some among the many functions carried out by Akshaya Centres. The organisers said that in Kozhikode district, the Akshaya programme was started in 2004 along with six other districts, after the initiative was launched on a pilot basis in Malappuram district in 2003. The objective of the IT Mission is to complete the computer literacy phase in all the seven districts by June 30, 2007. The Microsoft/ Linux booklets for the e-Vidya course that comprises word processing, Internet and the like are already ready as part of the launch into the second phase by the IT Mission.
