ANANTAPUR: Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy has complimented the services of Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) in rural areas as "invaluable". Though the State Government has not recognised them, the people in rural areas have recognised their role in the rural health sector, he adds. Speaking at the fifth district meet of RMPs held here on Tuesday, he said the RMPs had been demanding for recognition by the Government for long, but it had not come through so far. He would make efforts in that direction so that they could provide better services in rural areas, where the qualified doctors were not willing to go. He explained that doctors rolling out of medical colleges were not willing to take up Government employment with the fear of postings in rural areas. As a result, it had taken more than two years time for the Government to fill 1,000 doctor posts, he said. The RMPs were playing a key role in the rural health sector, as it was they who were available most to the poor in emergency, the Minister said.
