Guntur
P. Samuel Jonathan
GUNTUR: The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited, Guntur circle, has secured the first ranking among all circles in the State for overall performance for the year 2006-2007.
Points tally
The Guntur circle stood first with a points tally of 112.94, followed by Krishna with 108.26 points and West Godavari with 108.12. The AP Transco, which graded various circles on six parameters, including energy withdrawal, metered sale, demand raised, revenue collections, energy loss reduction and distributor transmission loss failure, released its ranking on Monday. SPDCL Guntur region Superintendent Engineer B. Rajasekhar attributed the improved performance to minimizing the distribution losses by installing 4,000 transmitters across the district and installation of high-accuracy meters in industrial establishments.
Revenue
Revenue collections improved from Rs. 464.39 crores in 2005-2006 to Rs.480.94 crores in 2006-2007, while the demand in estimates for revenue collection was raised from Rs. 524.14 crores in 2005-2006 to Rs.575.33 crores in 2006-2007. The average monthly power consumption in the district is 190 Million Units.
Less disturbance
The power cut disturbance in the Guntur region was the least with scheduled power shutdown taken for only a few days and frequent tripping was also not witnessed compared to all other regions in the State, Mr. Rajasekhar observed.
Power cut
Currently the effort of the company was to not to resort to power cut in the cities at all and for four hours in the municipal towns for the coming two months of summer. Occasional switching over to different transformers and feeders leads to temporary stalling of power supply in the cities, but was getting restored immediately.
More demand likely
He foresaw an increase in the demand in the coming months following higher use of air-conditioners in the domestic sector and in commercial establishments.
