TDP justifies stand on Babli project

Correspondent

`Government not sincerely trying to stop works'

Kakinada: State secretary of Telugu Desam Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday justified the party's stand on Babli project and clarified that they were trying to expose the hollowness of the Congress and its failure in safeguarding interests of the state.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said their intention was to tell the people that the Government was not sincerely trying to stop the project work despite being in power in both the states and at the Centre.

He did not agree with the view that the TDP was resorting to vote bank politics by holding Maha Dharna.

"We are only trying to create awareness among the people on the failure of the Government in halting the project works. If the Chief Minister is really sincere, he should prevail upon Sonia Gandhi by taking all the MPs along with him to New Delhi,'' he added.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao, who is also the party's observer for the party organisational elections in East Godavari district, said party membership drive had surpassed the target beyond expectations.
