Governor pats ISRO

HYDERABAD: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Tuesday congratulated scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of the first commercial foreign satellite through PSLV-8 on April 23 at Sriharikota.

In a message, he described the feat as `outstanding'. "This is another feather in the cap of ISRO. The nation is proud of this great achievement," Mr. Thakur said. — Special Correspondent

Case against official

KADAPA: A case under Prevention of Atrocities Against SC/STs Act has been booked against Executive Director of SC Corporation, Kadapa, B. Anil Kumar Reddy, on a complaint lodged by some Dalits of Duvvur mandal in Mydukur constituency.

Dalit leaders complained to the police that the ED had abused them on caste lines when they called on him on Monday on land issue.— Staff Reporter

Myanmar team

visits BHEL

HYDERABAD: Quarter Master General of Myanmar Lt. Gen. Thiha Thura Aug Myintoo and his team on Tuesday visited BHEL unit at Ramachandrapuram.

Group General Manager of the unit G. V. Rami Reddy explained to him the functioning of the unit, including turbine compressors and gas turbines shop and gas turbine manufacturing facility. The Myanmar delegation told Mr. Reddy that they would place orders for gas turbine manufacturing with BHEL. — Special Correspondent

Kho-Kho tourney

WARANGAL: Some 1,000 students representing 20 States will take part in the Under-19 National Kho-Kho championship which is beginning here at the JN Stadium on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference, Joint Collector Syed Omer Jaleel said a total of 1,034 sports persons have already registered to take part in the six day nationa level championship that would conclude on April 29.— Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: GSM (Global Standards for Mobile Communication) cellular service provider Idea has announced the launch of `Active Radio', giving subscribers a choice of a 100 pre-defined songs in three stations in the category of Bollywood, Telugu and My Album, according to Idea Cellular's AP Circle COO Subbaraman Iyer. All that was required to do was to dial 456097 and choose the options. Calls will be charged at Rs. 3 a minute.— Special Correspondent

Inter student ends life

GUNTUR: A week after the results of first year Intermediate examination was declared, a dejected student, who had failed in two subjects, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at her home on Tuesday.

Y. Vaidehi, a final year student of C.E.C group at the Bandla Hanumayamma Junior College at Brodipet, was rushed to the Government General Hospital, where she died .— Staff Reporter Workshop in film trades
