YSR orders closure of open borewells

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has ordered closure of all uncovered borewells in the State.

He directed Collectors and revenue officials on Tuesday to identify all dummy borewells left without casings and fill them up at Government cost. No further loss of life due to such open borewells would be tolerated, he said.

The review followed the news that a girl had accidentally fallen into one such open borewell in Nizamabad district and died on Monday.

Dr. Reddy said village secretaries must be made accountable for such deaths in future while ordering a quick survey of such borewells in the State.
