Smart City: rehabilitation package proposed

KOCHI: The Government is likely to accept most of the suggestions in the rehabilitation package proposed by the district administration in acquiring land for the development of Smart City.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said the package included provision of offering other land, valuation of land and building at reasonable market rates and water, electricity and road connectivity to the plot allotted.

However, the Government order on the package, issued on Monday, had not incorporated the suggestion for preference for jobs for members of the family being displaced from the earmarked land.

There were two orders regarding Smart City, one on rehabilitation and the other on valuation of land, he said.

The orders involved acquisition of 116 acres in the first block and 20 acres in the second block.

Forty-two families, which would be displaced from the earmarked area, would be provided plots at Edachira on the eastern side of the Info-Park in 92 cents of land. The value for land acquisition, for 136 acres of land at the rate of Rs.65,000 a cent, would be about Rs.100 crore, Mr. Hanish said.

Another 110 acres in Brahmapuram and nearby area were also being acquired for the Smart City taking the total land area up to 246 acres, he said. Implementation of the rehabilitation package would start soon, though he did not say anything regarding a timeframe for completing the process.

The Government was also planning to acquire another 167 acres of land for information technology development as Info-Park phase II at Puthenkurisu and Kunnathunadu. Survey work for the same has started.
