KARUR: Agonised residents of North Gandhigram area in Karur district, having forced to endure hot days and humid night for close to a day and a half, have found respite when power supply was restored a couple of hours past noon on Tuesday. The power snapped on Sunday evening and despite repeated requests the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board personnel could do little to ensure quick restoration of power supply. The hapless residents expressed their strong resentment and deep anguish over the apathy of the TNEB officials. The areas affected include Tamil Nadu Housing Board government staff quarters, G.R. Nagar, Muthu Nagar, Amarjothi Gardens, Vangalayee Amman Nagar, and other residential localities in the North Gandhigram. Many of us urged the TNEB officials to act expeditiously and restore power supply soon but our pleas received just lukewarm response and they took their own sweet time to set right things, said T. Karthikeyan of North Gandhigram. Water scarcity
The continued power shut down has resulted in scarcity of potable and general use water from being pumped to overhead tanks in individual houses. No power, no water, scorching sun and hot daytimes have sapped our energy, says S. Ravi an accountant of the same area. Relief came their way only on Tuesday afternoon when power supply was restored to the area. In fact, there was some problem initially but power supply stabilized later on.
