Staff Correspondent
HUBLI: The former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has accused the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of reducing Janata Dal (Secular) to a "family party." He was speaking at a function where he was felicitated by Sri Karisiddheshwara Murthy Pratisthaphane Samiti and Kundagol Taluk Congress Committee at Kundagol, near Hubli, on Tuesday. "Deve Gowda acted as if he had severed ties with his son H.D. Kumaraswamy after the latter joined hands with the BJP. But within a few months he started praising his son as a good administrator. People knopw about his double standards," Mr. Siddaramaiah said. After the coalition Government came into existence, nearly 150 farmers had committed suicide. Neither Mr. Deve Gowda nor Mr. Kumaraswamy have gone to console the family members of farmers, Mr. Siddaramaiah alleged. Not a single penny was being spent for providing loans to farmers at an interest rate of 4 per cent. The loan waiver scheme was nothing but an eye-wash. It would not be of much use to the needy farmers, he said. The former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim criticised the coalition partners and said that elections would be held after November. The former Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil too said that general elections were imminent. IT would be a major change in State politics after June 15.
