VIJAYAWADA: Showing a continuous improvement in the examination results of Intermediate, Krishna district registered a pass percentage of 76 in the final year results for 2006-07 declared on Tuesday. The district stood second in the State with Chittoor topping the list with 77 per cent pass. The district has stood first in the first year Intermediate results with 65 per cent. Regional Inspection Officer Yellamelli Arjunudu attributed the good result to constant efforts being made to further improve educational standards in all Government and aided junior colleges. He asserted that study hours were introduced before and after regular college hours, besides categorising students for the purpose of giving special attention to weak students. Of the 38,825 students who appeared for the senior Intermediate examination in the district, 29,686 cleared it. Mr. Arjunudu said that special emphasis was placed on improving the results of students who were found lagging behind in studies. Special methods were devised and close monitoring by lecturers helped in yielding good results. Mr. Arjunudu said that the district had being showing a steady improvement in pass percentage, with 71 per cent registered in 2003-04, 72 per cent in 2004-05, 74 per cent in 2005-06 and 76 per cent in 2006-07. GUNTUR: Raising the bar high, the district recorded an impressive pass percentage of 67 per cent in the Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) standing fifth in the State. The trends over the last three years showed a gradual increase in the pass percentage. The pass percentage in 2005 was 65, followed by 66 per cent in 2006. However, for those who want to know about marks and percentages, they would have to wait till Thursday. The marks list would be despatched to the respective colleges in a day or two. Some service providers were giving the marks over short messaging service (SMS). The declaration of the results was a subdued affair with the conspicuous absence of drum beating by the corporate college managements, following the board's decision not to award ranks. In Guntur Vignan Vadlamudi campus student M. Ashok got 984 out of 1,000, while their overall performance of the students was 94.3 per cent pass with 73 per cent students getting `A' grade. Hyderabad student Ch. Lokesh Reddy of Vignan College got 981. Out of 31, 744 students who had appeared for the IPE (Regular) in 2007, 21, 156 students passed. Regional Inspecting Officer G. Rajakumari said that the improved performance was due to sustained effort from the college managements and the relentless supervision by the board.
