KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Congress (Joseph) will launch an agitation and hold a Parliament march, calling for immediate steps to introduce support prices for agriculture produce from the State to put in place an effective price-stabilisation mechanism. P.J. Joseph, party chairman, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Union Government needed to take a new look at the economic policies being followed and their impact on the agriculture sector. The party would take out the Parliament march on May 16. The demands included deletion of provisions of trade agreements that had an adverse impact on cash crops of the State, inclusion of cash crops and spices in the crop insurance scheme and a special debt-relief package for farmers from the State. The party would hold district-level protest marches and dharnas on May 7.
