Power shutdown

BELLARY: In view of urgent repair work on the 220-kV station inAllipur on the outskirts of the city, there will be no power supply between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Bellary city and surrounding areas on Wednesday. Bellary city, Moka and Kurgodu and surrounding places in Bellary Taluk, and Toranagal in Sandur taluk and other areas attached to it, will go without power supply, according to an official press release.

`Waive loans'

BELLARY: The State Government has issued orders to waive loans and interest on loans of farmers who repay their farm loans before April 30. I.S. Giraddi, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, has in a press release stated that loans up to Rs. 25,000 out of a total loan of Rs. 50,000 availed after February 1, 2006 will be waived. In addition, the interest on the remaining Rs. 25,000 would be waived if the principal loan amount is repaid on or before April 30.

He has appealed to farmers to take advantage of the interest waiver scheme by repaying the loan amount before April 30 to relieve themselves of the loan burden, besides availing loan facilities at the rate of four percent. — Staff Correspondent

Inter-college meet

CHITRADURGA: The city-based Bapuji B.Ed. College will host a two-day inter-B.Ed. college sports and cultural meet from April 27, secretary of the society K.K. Veeresh said. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that the event has been partially sponsored by the Kuvempu University. Over 1,200 students of around 37 B.Ed, colleges affiliated to the university would participate, he said. Accommodation facilities would be provided to all the participants. — Staff Correspondent

Student ends life

MYSORE: A 22-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train. The deceased has been identified as Naveen of Bannikoppa village in Hunsur taluk. He was studying final year Computer Science at Bahubali Engineering College in Shravanabelagola. Railway police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent
