HASSAN: Former Prime Minister and Hassan Lok Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda has said rather than focus on constructing temples, people should live in harmony. Only then peace would prevail in villages. He was addressing the inaugural function of the Chennakeshava Swamy, Lakshmi and Anjaneya Swamy temples in Maradi village in Arakalagudu Taluk in Hassan on Monday. Mr. Deve Gowda promised to release funds for the construction of a community hall and for a milk union building from his MP Local Area Development Fund. He lauded the services of M.G. Somasekhar, Assistant Executive Engineer NH Sub-division, under whose guidance the temple was constructed. Earlier, Kumar Chandrasekharanatha Swami of Viswa Vokkaligara Maha Samsthana Peetha Kengeri who inaugurated the temple said Maradi was a model village with proper civic amenities. "I have seen number of villages but Maradi is an exception," he said. The seer advised people to assemble in the evenings and sing bhajans together. He urged people to strive to build a society with peace and harmony. Mr. Deve Gowda, former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda, MLA A.T. Rama Swamy and engineer Somasekhar were honoured.
