HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti witnessed some fast-paced developments on Tuesday when party president K. Chandrasekhara Rao summoned party MPs and legislators for a meeting and called it off, even before it began. Sources said Mr. Rao summoned the party MPs and MLAs to attend an emergency meeting here to discuss reports about the alleged involvement of some TRS leaders in the passport scam. Senior party leader A. Narendra, however, had no invitation. As a sequel to this, Mr. Narendra told reporters that he had no intimation. "I will speak to Mr. Rao and find out why I was left out," he said denying reports suggesting his alleged involvement in the emigration racket. He explained that he had never gone abroad after 2001 and even showed his passport to the journalists to drive home his point.
Hectic activity
After the press conference, he left for the party office to meet Mr. Rao, but he could not as the party chief did not turn up. The party witnessed hectic activity since Monday night, following telephone calls by Mr. Rao to MPs and MLAs. Confused over the development, they rushed to Hyderabad only to be told that the meeting was cancelled. However, two MPs - B. Vinod Kumar and Ravindra Naik - who were asked not to leave Warangal till the party's "Vishwaroop Mahasabha" concluded on April 27, along with six other MLAs, went to Mr. Rao's residence to find out the reason for the meeting. It is understood that the TRS president told them about the passport scam and doubts being raised about the alleged involvement of certain leaders. It is said that the alleged involvement of one of the personal staff of Mr Narendra in the scandal also cropped up during their conversation. Though some disciplinary action was contemplated against Mr. Narendra before April 27, some legislators reportedly voiced their concern that any drastic action at this juncture would prove counter-productive.
