MANGALORE: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a protest at the Mangalore city railway station on Monday. The agitators stopped the Mangalore-Chennai Mail for about ten minutes in the afternoon, demanding that passenger trains be introduced from Bangalore to Baindoor through Mangalore, Udupi and Kundapur. They also demanded that more job opportunities be provided at the Mangalore railway station to locals on a priority basis and that Kannada boards be put up outside all railway stations in coastal Karnataka in keeping with the three-language formula of the Union Government. Criticising the practice of acceptance of applications for reservation of tickets at the railway station in Malayalam, the vedike has said this is an insult to Kannada.
