`Hakku patras' being sold for prices between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 5,000: Virajpet TP member

  • Racket is rampant in Mullusoge and Madapur panchayats
  • `Politicians hushing it up in view of municipal elections'

Madikeri: Virajpet taluk panchayat member Addanda C. Cariappa has urged the district administration to initiate action against officials who allegedly counterfeiting title deeds (hakku patra) for building Ashraya houses in Somwarpet taluk.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Cariappa said a zilla panchayat member, a taluk panchayat member from Somwarpet and a few officials were behind the racket. Some gram panchayat secretaries had knowledge of it, he said.

Mr. Cariappa submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding booking of criminal cases against those involved in the racket. He wanted the membership of the elected representatives to be cancelled.

    Petition

Mr. Cariappa said that he would petition the Lokayukta if no action was initiated in five days.

Fake title deeds were sold for prices ranging from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 5,000 each, Mr. Cariappa said, producing one such "fake" document before the presspersons.

The racket was rampant in Mullusoge and Madapur panchayats. Many people who had encroached upon lands belonging to the maths had secured the fake title deeds. Also, fake title deeds that which did not have `chekkubandi' (details of properties in the four directions of the sites) had been registered, Mr. Cariappa said.

Elected representatives from Somwarpet were aware of it, but they were trying to it hush it up in view of the coming municipal elections in Kushalnagar and Somwarpet town panchayats, he alleged.
